Why is my website not converting? It’s a question many business owners ask when they see plenty of website traffic but very few inquiries.
Occam’s Razor says the simplest answer is usually the right one. This month, I had two clients worried because their websites weren’t getting any leads, even though their traffic looked good. At first, it seemed like it might be an SEO or marketing problem.
It was something much simpler. One client’s contact form emails were going to spam, and the other wasn’t getting the emails at all. Occam’s Razor in action for sure. They were getting inquiries, but not receiving them.
I ended up using Jotform as the form for one of the client’s websites, which has a cool feature of sending you a text when you get an email from the website. Since the old form was just not working, I forwarded all the older emails that my client was not getting, so she could follow up.
The other website’s email was broken after we changed the domain, so she had to connect it again (Wix), with a bit of instruction from me, and she marked all the test emails as safe so she would begin getting emails again.
If you’ve been asking yourself, “Why is my website not converting?” don’t assume it’s an SEO problem. Make sure your contact forms are working properly, your emails aren’t going to spam, and you’re actually receiving every inquiry your website generates. Sometimes the simplest explanation really is the right one.
Did you know Mercury was in retrograde for most of July? Mercury looks like it is going backwards and basically screws up tech and communication issues. I can’t make this stuff up.
