I researched how often you should redesign your website, and was able to secure this answer:
Minor refresh: every 12–18 months
Strategic redesign: every 3–5 years
Immediate redesign: when specific red flags appear
How do I feel about it? I think if you are happy with the design, you should keep it beyond the suggested 3-5 years. But if you need to upgrade the software or your content is invisible to the search engines, it would be a good idea to revamp things. Along with that, check out when you should consider a redesign, right now.
Website Red Flags That Mean “Now”
If any of these are true, it’s redesign time – regardless of age:
You hesitate to share your website
People misunderstand what you do
Your site isn’t mobile-friendly
It loads slowly
It doesn’t reflect your current values or offerings
You’ve pivoted, expanded, or matured
It looks dated compared to competitors
You’re invisible in search results
One big one:
“My business has grown, but my website hasn’t.”
I am always changing things up, and just went through a quiet brand refresh a few months ago. I was not feeling the previous puzzle piece header and leaned into my favorite colors of green and purple, and a bit mystical. I believe your branding should be a reflection of who you are. There is no reason to pretend to be something you are not just to get business. I believe how you feel about your brand is just as important as functionality, and if you are not feeling it, you will hesitate to put yourself out there. I am pretty happy with my slightly different vibe. How do you feel about your own branding is the answer to how often you should redesign your website. If you need help, I do have a simple Branding Refresh option. Email me for more information.
