Last week I worked on a new Divi website page for a client, using the flyer she sent me. Everything went smoothly, and we were both really happy with how it turned out. It’s really satisfying when a project flows.
The next day, I noticed she had added some extra info. I thought it would stand out more in a new section with a different background. At first, I hesitated—I didn’t want to come off as controlling. I’ve stayed quiet before when clients make edits, thinking it’s “their call.”
But this time, I realized something: she hired me for my expertise. I have over 15 years of experience and a graphic design degree, and it’s okay to own that. So I sent her some suggestions on how to make it clearer and more effective. She was happy I did.
I’m learning I don’t have to think of myself as just a hired hand. I can be the professional I am, offering friendly, helpful guidance.
You should own your expertise as well…
Owning your expertise means recognizing the value you bring. You’ve spent years learning and practicing your skills, and clients hire you for that knowledge. Sharing your ideas helps them get better results and shows you are a professional they can trust.
If you want a fresh eye on your website or branding, I can help. I offer a free five-minute evaluation via screenshare that I send on my own time. Or, you can hire me for a full consult—you can book it here. I’ll be honest, professional, and offer ideas you might not have thought of.
