Why To Use Pinterest SEO to Drive More Traffic

by | Aug 31, 2025 | SEO, Small Business, Social Media | 0 comments

About a year and a half ago, I began to notice I was getting more traffic to my website through Pinterest, sometimes more than Google searches. I decided to focus more of my attention on Pinterest. I revamped my profile, renamed my boards and many pins to reflect what people were searching for, and now I have about as much traffic from Pinterest as Google, on some days even more. You may also want to try this. Unlike social platforms where posts fade quickly, Pinterest acts as a search engine — and when paired with SEO, it can double your visibility.

Here’s why using Pinterest and SEO together can work really well and how to use it:

Pinterest as a Search Engine

  • Pinterest is a visual search engine where people type in keywords to find solutions.
  • Use keyword research (with Keysearch or Pinterest suggestions) in pin titles, descriptions, and boards.
  • Create multiple pin designs that link back to the same blog post or offer.
  • Every pin is clickable, sending people to your website.
  • Pins last months (sometimes years), bringing long-term visibility.

Pinterest Content Ranks in Google Too

  • Because Pinterest has strong domain authority, pins and boards often show up in Google search results.
  • If you’ve optimized your pins with keywords, they can rank in both Google and Pinterest searches.
  • Example: A pin titled “Best Crystals for Sleep” could appear on page one of Google and link straight to your blog.
  • Each pin also acts like a mini backlink to your site, reinforcing your SEO.

The SEO + Pinterest Synergy

  • Research a keyword in Keysearch (my go-to for keyword research).
  • Write a blog post targeting that keyword.
  • Create Pinterest pins with the same keyword that link to your post.
  • This gives you two traffic streams from one piece of content — your blog post can rank on Google, and your pins can rank on Pinterest (and sometimes in Google when it gets indexed).

My Strategy:

  • New Pins: Create multiple pin graphics for the same blog post, service, or freebie → increases reach without being spammy.
  • Clickable Content: Each pin links to your website, blog, or landing page. Unlike Instagram, you’re not limited to a single bio link.
  • Long Game: Pins last months to years, unlike social posts that fade within days.

I need to emphasize this as a long-term game. It takes six months to a year to begin seeing results. But, search engine optimization is the same. The important thing is to just get started.

If this seems like too much work and you just want to run your business, Pinterest is part of the marketing strategy I do for my regular clients.  Check out my Maintenance Packages.
