I was just reading an article on Entrepreneur about email marketing and I agree with its many points. I think it is great. I use it to keep in touch with old and current clients as well as people I have met along the way in person or online. If used correctly, it will get you business. It does for me and I wish some of the people I have met in my networking groups would keep in touch. When I have a referral the people that stay at the top of my head are the ones that keep in touch on a regular basis.
That being said, here are some good points to keep in mind when engaging in email marketing:
- Don’t send out too many emails a month, or even too little. Although there are some hard facts to back this up, from a personal viewpoint, if I get too many emails from someone, it just goes in one ear and out the other. The ones I do notice are the people I know and I am interested in hearing from. I like to send mine out twice a month but I know you can find the right frequency for your business.
- Writing a book, not an email newsletter. Many people are opening their email on their smartphone and have a short attention span. Do not write a book if you want to get their attention. Make it short, sweet, and have a call to action.
- You send out your emails but never look at the marketing results. I like MailChimp but the other programs have this as well. It is a good idea to find out who clicked on what, who unsubscribed, and what type of content attracted the most clicks.
- Make sure the email is mobile friendly. Most services have this covered but I have received an email newsletter that was completely written in a graphic which made it difficult to read on a mobile phone.

Just remember I do offer email marketing services. You send me the content and I will make it looks nice, sent out at the right time, and even post your article on your website blog and social media sites.
