What in the world is a citation? Isn’t that when you get caught parking in the wrong spot downtown? Nope, it is actually a way for your website to get found online locally. The official definition is:
“Citations For Local SEO. A citation is an online reference to your business’s name, address and phone number (NAP). Like links to your website, Google uses them when evaluating the online authority of your business.”
Basically, anywhere your name, address and phone number is listed counts to bring your website up higher above the other listings when people are searching for a local business. For example, if you have a Yelp or Google plus page, just your name, address and phone counts as well as the website address.
These are called citations. Reviews are good too, so make sure your business is in the local directories and places where the public can review your business, like Yelp, Superpages, Angieslist…ect. Hope that helps!
