All the files needed to build your website are included in the downloadable .zip files. You get the html file, css, images and a layered photoshop file for customizing the template. All you have to do is add your text, logo,  and pictures using a good web editing software and upload it to your server!

You do not need to purchase or have access to dreamweaver to edit the files…macromedia contribute and frontpage will work just fine!

I did a bit of research to make sure my costs and rates are in line with others in my field.  This was after I had one potential client back out because she couldn’t afford to build the site she wanted and was going to try and build it herself.  I just wanted to make sure my rates were competitive relative to my skill set and professional experience.  It looks like I am…that is good news! I am right in the middle…fair.  I have six years of web and graphic design experience, print and web as well as a degree in the field. It looks like you win some and you lose some, but at least I know I am doing the right thing…either end of the scale would make me feel pretty bad….I certainly do not want people to feel like I am taking advantage of them but I also want to feel that my time is being compensated for.    Here are some useful sites you might want to take a look at to get an idea of how we creative peeps work and charge.

Synchronicity

I get that quite a bit with the people that find me and Margarett Harrell is no exception. I try and do a short meditation every day or every other day, mostly from the Orin DaBen free online meditation room. I like the opening to recieve, clear creative mind, recieving extra energy…etc. I find they are great to start off the day and be open to more creative solutions. That being said, I thought it was pretty cool a woman in North Carolina who teaches the Orin DaBen Light Body classes contacted me to design a new website and blog for her services and books.

For creative direction, she sent me a few photos of her cloud photography series, and for some reason a little pink triangle kept showing up in the photos. I figured they had to be there for a reason so I decided to incorporate the triangle.  It seemed like one of those mysterious orbs you see in photographs sometimes.

What for? It’s important to get inbound links to your website to get a higher ranking in google. Finding quality places to add your website address is tedious and time consuming, so why not put it on auto pilot using your goggle alerts? The alerts function goes out and searches for content on the web that you are interested in and delivers it to your email box. Why not use some of the keywords of your website content that help your clientele find you, in the alerts?. For example, as a web and graphic designer, I added “custom web and graphic design” to my alerts, “holistic web design” and “holistic graphic design”.

I did this but will admit that I went a bit overboard and had the alerts set to arrive whenever something was found, and was annoyingly bombarded by alerts every minute or two. So, I went back and set it to once a week. At this point, I can check out what websites were found and do a bit of marketing for myself by adding my website link to the sites that google alerts found. Most of them were related blogs, which allow comments including your website address. Pretty cool huh?

If you want to target your local clientele, it’s important to add your business to the free local listings on google, yahoo, and bing.  In google, they place local listings above the other search engine results for a search keyword or phrase.  Of course you would want your business listed here.

Once you add your business, you will either have to validate it by phone or email.  If you validate it by email, the process could take two weeks.
