Helping client out with wordpress and video

I spent a bit of time this morning helping a client out navigate her way through the features of her blog that I designed.  I taught her how to add video to her pages and posts.  It’s not too difficult at all but some people don’t know how to do it and she is beginning to put them on youtube.  Ok, I am am more or less posting this because her video cracked me up…and I am pretty sure it was meant to be that way, so I know I am not insulting her by saying that.   I tend to attract more colorful friends and clients and I like it that way.

Wordpress Shopping cart Plugin – YaY!

Doing a bit of research with keywords and found this cool plugin for wordpress.  I can’t say enough about how much I like wordpress.  I think it’s a great content management solution for a website and with this plugin it makes it much easier to sell your stuff online.  I can’t wait to try it out.

Wordpress Shopping Cart Plugin

It has social networking tools built into it so you can promote new items when you put them on your site.  Best of all it’s a free plugin, but of course there is an upgrade to premium services, but free is good!

BTW, I love designing custom wordpress websites…

Automated Social Bookmarking Software Review

Posted by Heather | Search Engine Marketing Tactics, graphic design | Friday 30 April 2010 11:59 am

I just purchased this software a few weeks ago to help increase the traffic to my website and blog, plus help clients do the same.  I noticed that whenever I post a blog and then submitted it by hand to some of my favorite bookmarking sites like dig.com, reddit.com and stumbleupon.com, my traffic went up to at least 100 new visitors in addition to what I was already getting.  I thought that was pretty cool but the only problem doing it by hand is it is time consuming and tedious.  So I searched around on the internet to find some sort of software program that could do this quickly and easily and found Bookmarking Demon.

So far it is so good.  The software submits my website pages or blog posts to around 50 out of 100 social bookmarking sites.  This helps with search engine optimization because of the calculation that the engines use as a “vote”.  Websites with your link pointing to a page on your site tells the engines your site is popular and social bookmarking is a part of that equation.  I used it a couple of times with my blog posts and yes, my traffic did jump dramatically for that day.  I even had someone from the UK contact me for design work.   This leads me to believe the software program is working.

Any drawbacks?  Well, the interface takes a bit getting used to and I haven’t even gone into the professional view yet, just stuck with the beginner mode.  Another drawback is you still have to hand type in your keywords, title tag and url…but after that the submission is automatic and you just wait until it is finished.  It gives you a report of the successful submissions at the end of the run so you can see just how many were submitted.  It averages about 50 out of 100 which I say is still good because you will not catch me sitting at my computer tediously submitting my website or posts to 50 sites by hand.  That is not what I want to spend my time doing!

My disclaimer….this software is NOT supposed to be used for spamming!  It’s main purpose is to get high quality social bookmarking links going to your site so you get more traffic.  I think it is best for people that have blogs and constantly changing content.  You submit your content with the program and it gets out there faster, getting you traffic, customers, inquiries and sales!

Check out the bookmarking demon website, you can download it at the very end of the page, and you can also turn off the sound on the video…it’s kind of annoying!

Feedburner adds twitter – How to automate publicity for blog posts

Posted by Heather | Search Engine Marketing Tactics | Tuesday 29 December 2009 8:43 am

Feedburner added a new feature, Twitter!  If you are using feedburner to help people subscribe to your blog posts, you can now add your twitter account to your feedburner account.  In english, everytime you post a new blog, it automatically goes out and posts to your twitter account.  In addition, if you have twitter hooked up with your facebook account, it automatically goes out to your facebook account.  No more posting your blog post by hand!

Use Your Google Alerts for search engine marketing!

Posted by Heather | Search Engine Marketing Tactics | Sunday 23 August 2009 8:59 pm

What for? It’s important to get inbound links to your website to get a higher ranking in google. Finding quality places to add your website address is tedious and time consuming, so why not put it on auto pilot using your goggle alerts? The alerts function goes out and searches for content on the web that you are interested in and delivers it to your email box. Why not use some of the keywords of your website content that help your clientele find you, in the alerts?. For example, as a web and graphic designer, I added “custom web and graphic design” to my alerts, “holistic web design” and “holistic graphic design”.

I did this but will admit that I went a bit overboard and had the alerts set to arrive whenever something was found, and was annoyingly bombarded by alerts every minute or two. So, I went back and set it to once a week. At this point, I can check out what websites were found and do a bit of marketing for myself by adding my website link to the sites that google alerts found. Most of them were related blogs, which allow comments including your website address. Pretty cool huh?

Get yourself a gmail account and set yourself up on the alerts…

Local Business Search – add yours!

Posted by Heather | Search Engine Marketing Tactics | Sunday 23 August 2009 1:20 am

If you want to target your local clientele, it’s important to add your business to the free local listings on google, yahoo, and bing.  In google, they place local listings above the other search engine results for a search keyword or phrase.  Of course you would want your business listed here.

Use these links to add your business and website.

Google Local

Yahool Local

Bing Local

Once you add your business, you will either have to validate it by phone or email.  If you validate it by email, the process could take two weeks.

In google, you even have the option of adding a coupon to your listing. Like I said, it’s FREE marketing.
